Preserving the land for six generations.
The Bassett family established roots in Dover, Kansas, in 1855 and has been an active presence in the community ever since. In 1861, we bought our first parcel of land and since that day we have made it our priority to preserve its natural Kansas beauty for future generations.

Helping the Community
We believe giving back to the community is essential. That’s why we hire young men and women from the area and teach them the value of land and wildlife stewardship. Through this work, we hope to cultivate a lasting appreciation for conservation while providing a livable income that allows them to plan for their future. We love watching them grow as employees during their time at Crooked Post Ranch, and through the variety of work on the ranch, we strive to help them discover their true passions in life.
Learn About Our Ecosystem
The Flint Hills
The Flint Hills stretches across northeastern Kansas to northeastern Oklahoma, renowned for their abundant limestone and shale deposits, mixed with flint fragments. Over time, erosion has shaped these rocks into the region’s iconic jagged, staircase-like hills. This unique terrain creates the perfect environment for nurturing native grasses and forbs, while preventing the rapid growth of trees. As a result, the prairie thrives as a haven for wildlife, providing an essential habitat for countless prairie species to flourish.
The Tallgrass Prairie
Spanning across ten states, the tallgrass prairie is home to grasses that can grow over ten feet tall. However, due to human activity, only 4% of this once vast ecosystem remains. In the Flint Hills, the rocky soil deterred early settlers from plowing the land, sparing the prairie from serious destruction. Today, two-thirds of the surviving tallgrass prairie is found here in Kansas, making the Flint Hills a vital sanctuary for this endangered landscape. We are committed to preserving this special land and providing native species with a place to thrive.
